In case you didn’t get the memo, OPM has been thriving as of late. Over the past few years, Filipino artists have been able to keep up with and even surpass international artists in terms of topping charts, racking up tens of millions of streams, and holding sold-out concerts at the country’s biggest venues. OPM continues to rise, and as it should. 

It’s this excellence that a new awards show looks to honor as it puts the spotlight on your OPM faves who have been doing their big one with the arrival of the Filipino Music Awards (FMAs). Here’s what you need to know about this major celebration of OPM. 

OPM AT ITS BEST

The Filipino Music Awards (FMAs) is billed as the highest honor in Philippine music. It’s a night where Filipino artists, songwriters, producers, and visionaries are celebrated not just for their hits but for shaping culture, inspiring generations, and elevating the nation’s sound. The FMAs promises to be a defining moment for OPM where the country’s greatest musical talents are recognized, honored, and immortalized. 

To be awarded an FMA is a sign of GOAT status TBH, because not only does it show metric and chart success, but also innovation, artistry, and contributions to the Philippines’ musical legacy. And because OPM is as varied as the country, the FMAs gives everyone their flowers, from incomparable icons to game-changing visionaries in front of and behind the mic, viral sensations, chart-topping hitmakers, and more. 

Taking place on October 21, 6 PM, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, the inaugural FMAs will unite over 500 musicians and industry leaders for a landmark evening celebrating the artists, record labels, and creative projects that define the OPM movement. In total, 18 awardees selected from a pool of 78 nominees across four distinguished categories will be awarded, with the full list of awards and categories revealed closer to the event’s date.

In line with the FMAs’ mission to honor the best of Filipino music, awards winners will be determined by a distinguished jury composed of OPM icons and industry veterans, who bring unparalleled expertise and credibility to the selection process. But winners of select awards will also be determined by nationwide public voting, the details of which will be revealed at a later date. This balance of expert recognition and the voice of the Filipino audience cements the FMAs as the definitive highest honor in local music.

And because no music awards show is complete without live performances, the FMAs will also feature seven world-class performances, uniting generations of standout Filipino talent on one stage.
